Sponsored by the Burlington Lions Club, the Genoa City Lions Club was chartered December 10, 1960 and met at the Genoa City American Legion Hall.  There were 27 charter members (listed in no particular order): David Haase, Gerald Robinson, Frank Surzyn, Ben Schuren, Wallace Crawford, Wm. Mathee, John Hughes, Cornelis Decker, Sandy Logan, Robert Paton, Max Muller, Geo. Robinson, Bruce Adams, Verden Hicks, Orval Anderson, Gerald Lewis, Russell Jaynes, Wm. Siegler, Don Phillips, Allan Heigeland, Lew Hughes, James Darling, Vic Oesterling, Theron Bill, Warren Lee, D.R. Guptil and Stewart Herzog.  In the 1960s a youth baseball program was started, which we funded for over 12 years. During the 1970s we built 3 shelters, tennis courts and park lighting at Veterans Park. We continued to improve the park in the 1980s by building a kitchen and roof over the washrooms, bridges across the creek and 5 entrance signs for the community. We also purchased the Jaws of Life for our local fire department. In the 1990s we built a large steel shelter at the park and built a Veterans and Swedish Monument. Our work continues in the 21st century. So far we have paid for siding for the Library and we also continue to support countless other charities
